“To appreciate the beauty of a snowflake it is necessary to stand out in the cold.”

In January 2022, we embarked on an unforgettable trip to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, home to Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak. Our trip was filled with fun moments and valuable lessons. In this blog post, I will share the essential tips and insights we gained during our visit to this picturesque destination. I hope these pointers will help you make the most of your Garmisch-Partenkirchen adventure.

1) New to Skiing: Learn to Ski at the Beginner Level:
One of the highlights of our trip was learning to ski, despite having no prior experience. We highly recommend taking a day course for beginners. It’s a fantastic way to embrace the local culture and enjoy the stunning slopes.
2) Booking Your Ski Course:
Ensure you book your ski course in advance. Planning ahead will guarantee you a spot and save you from any last-minute hassles. We booked our course and equipment through https://skischule-gap.de/skikurse.html.
If you are beginner, you can select Gruppenskikurs Erwachsene and select the skill level as you proceed with the booking
3) Ski Pass Considerations:
You will have to buy a ski pass for the course. When purchasing your ski pass, be cautious. We made the mistake of buying an adult pass, which only allows you to come down by skiing, which is not recommended for beginners. Beginners should opt for the children’s ski pass for a smoother experience where you can come down the peak using cable cars.
4) Digital Pass Exchange:
You’ll receive a digital pass, but remember to exchange it for a physical card well in advance. This simple step will prevent delays and ensure you don’t miss out on any activities.
5) Getting your rented equipment:
Renting ski equipment is essential, and it’s wise to do it a day before you hit the slopes. Finding the right fit can be time-consuming, so allocate ample time for this.

6) Stay at Angela Guesthouse:
We had a delightful stay at Angela Guesthouse, where we were provided with free bus passes for our entire stay. The rooms offered breathtaking views of the snow-covered peaks, making it an ideal choice for accommodation.

7) Dress Comfortably for Skiing:
To avoid discomfort while skiing, wear thin leggings or pants along with thin socks. Bulky clothing can lead to discomfort, especially with ski boots.
8) Shop Timings:
Be aware that most shops in the town close by 6 pm. Plan your shopping accordingly to make the most of your visit.
9) Experience Snowfall at Zugspitze:
For those seeking a magical snowfall experience, don’t miss the chance to ride the Zugspitzebahn on a snowy day. It’s a journey you won’t forget.

We hope these tips will help you navigate this enchanting destination with ease. From skiing adventures to cozy accommodations and scenic views, Garmisch-Partenkirchen has it all. Make the most of your visit, and don’t forget to embrace the magic of the snow-covered peaks. Happy travels!
